MY SKINCARE ROUTINE: THE SUMMER EDITION

skincare routine summerMy skincare routine during summer needs to be easy and quick. I don’t need thick layers of facial cream to make me look shiny and greasy. So what do I do during the hot days of July and August?

My skin type

Before going into my daily routine, I just wanted to describe my skin since not every product will be suitable for every skin type: My skin is rather on the dry side, especially around the nose, very sensitive and easily inflamed. Due to the fact I have rosacea, I need to be extra careful with exposing my skin to sun. Therefore, good sun protection is an absolute must-have for my skincare routine. Based on these facts I found these skincare products that are gentle, alcohol-free and moisturizing.

My morning routine

Konjac Sponge for sensitive skin

In the morning I start off with a splash of cold water on my face to wake me up and refresh me. Occasionally, when I feel my skin needs to be exfoliated I give it a quick massage with my wet Konjac sponge. The natural Konjac sponge gently cleanses the face while taking away any dead skin parts. Over time, I have tried many different exfoliators, mechanical and chemical peelings from Aesop, Dermalogica, MAC and so forth. I liked all products at the time I used them but once I discovered those natural little sponges I wouldn’t change back my routine. My skin never got irritated, feels smoother and softer than ever. Plus, my dry spots on the nose and cheeks are (almost) gone.

Avène Antirougeurs Jour Redness-Relief Moisturizing Protecting Cream

After this little treatment, I’d apply a little bit of my all-time favorite moisturizer from Avène. This  is my save option when it comes to creams, which I always come back to although I try different products from time to time. The cream is not too thick and gets absorbed quickly without leaving a sticky layer on my skin.

Afterwards I add some extra sun screen, even though the Avène cream already provides SPF 20. However, for me this level does not suffice during summer. My current favorite is the anti-shine version from La-Roche Posay with SPF 30. Although I am not prone to acne or oily skin in general, I prefer this sunscreen as I it keeps everything matte during very hot summer days even if I add foundation on top.

My evening routine

The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Balm

In the evening, I’d start with my routine with my cleansing balm from The Body Shop to take my makeup off. The cleanser is easy to use, gentle and even manages to remove my waterproof mascara without damaging my lashes. Once I started using this facial cleanser I basically stopped using any other products (e.g. Bioderma Sensibio). This product simply proved to be the best  makeup remover for my personal requirements: gentle, moisturizing & affordable.

REN Vita Mineral Omega 3 Optimum Skin Oil

Afterwards I’d give my face another massage with the Konjac Sponge and my skin is almost ready for the night. If I feel I need an extra amount of moisture, I just add a drop of the REN serum to my Avène facial cream. Overnight, the serum plumps up my skin without leaving any residues on my face.

I love my current routine as it only requires 5 products and it doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes in the morning or evening.
